CHP501. Introduction to Chaplaincy

An introduction to the theory and practice of chaplaincy in various locations. (Introductory Arts of Ministry)

CHP635. Trauma, Theology, and Pastoral Care

Credit, three hours. (Hansen) (Same as PC635.) (Prerequisite: PC501, PC501CE, PC 502, or equivalent)

The goal of this course is to gives students knowledge and practical skills to support them in working with individuals and communities of faith in the aftermath of trauma. The course integrates the work of social scientists who write about trauma with the scholarship of theologians and with the narratives of individuals who have personally experienced or born witness to traumatic events. Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to think about the challenges trauma poses to faith leaders in various contexts.
